My Favorite Lettering Tools

A common misconception with lettering is that you need to have a really nice or expensive pen/marker/brush/tool to create beautiful lettering. IT'S A LIE, PEOPLE!! You can letter beautifully with any tool you have around- from Crayola Super Tip Markers to using a dip pen with a Zebra G Nib! It's all about the specific project you're working on and what tool would work best. Did you hear we're releasing a limited edition lettering kit this month? While you anxiously await receiving your kit, here's a few of my favs to hold you over in the meantime..

Uniball Signo Gel Pen

Why I like it: It's the most opaque white ink I've found for pens!
Works best for: Colored envelopes

Pentel Fude Touch Sign Pen

Why I like it: It's a felt tip brush pen that gives you fabulous differentiation between strokes + comes in a many colors!
Works best: on smaller projects with brush lettering

Kuretake Zig Wink of Luna Metallic Brush Pen - Copper

Why I like it: It's a synthetic tip brush pen that requires more control, but gives you incredibly fine strokes. It feels more like a paintbrush and has beautiful metallics!
Works best: on medium size projects with brush lettering

Pentel Aquash Water Brush - Medium

Why I like it: It's a synthetic tip brush pen that is great for watercolor lettering! The base actually holds water in it so your lettering will be more fluid.
Works best: on watercolor paper to create washes and blends as well as brush lettering + calligraphy (included in The Art Journal Kit!)
