Austin Creatives: Frond Plant Shop
Austin Creatives will be a series of blog posts spotlighting only a few of the many talented and VERY creative individuals here in Austin. Our first interview is with Sara Cecilia Barnes, owner of the dreamy Frond Plant Shop that just opened this past summer.
How'd you get started?
My previous work was with my family design and build company so I've always been in a creative environment. And my mom is the OG plant lady. As my own plant collection grew, so did my experience. The idea just sort of formed from there.
What's your favorite part of your job?
Being around all these plants is really cool. They bring you so much happiness when they're growing and happy. To see them flourish in here makes me feel really good.
We LOVE Frond's vibe. How would you describe your aesthetic?
Eclectic, maybe? I'm a fan of so many different styles. I try to include all my favorites.
How'd you come up with the name Frond?
A frond is a divided leaf particular to ferns. And I think it's a cool word. I had the name picked out before the shop was a solid idea.
I love south Austin (I'm a little bias, that's where I live). Why did you choose to set up shop on south First?
I love it too. This area still feels unique and small. Also, it's mostly residential and those are the kind of people I want to reach.
What's your morning routine?
I'm not a morning person. Alarm at 7. Hit the snooze until about 8. Water the plants in the greenhouse. Head up to the shop. Water the plants here. And finally make a coffee around 10.
